Hailing from Lethbridge, Alberta, The Ebb and Flow was started by Gregory Esselmont as an outlet for songs that didn't fit with projects and bands he was currently playing with. The songs draw on influence from over a decade of writing and performing with alternative rock bands, punk bands, a hip hop solo project, acoustic projects, and even with classical guitar training and singing in a university choir. Somehow, with the help of Steve Birss' electronic and recording talents, The Ebb and Flow manages to blend all these influences into a coherent and often catchy mix of introspective and heartfelt songs that, even though all sound different, manage to flow together seamlessly.
Highlights of the album include the aggressively paced song, A Redundant Negative; the reflective ballad, Cold and Pale; the Death Cab for Cutie like song, Any Regrets; and the hip hop/bluegrass blend of Two Guns, Two hands, Twelve Bullets.
